Allegheny County Stormwater Management Plan and Ordinance

PA Stormwater Management Act 167

Enacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, this act requires that counties put a plan in place that addresses the problems caused by stormwater runoff. It is a plan to both reduce the amount of stormwater runoff and improve the quality of stormwater runoff.

A County Wide Plan

In the final stages of development, Allegheny County has been developing a county wide Stormwater Management Plan and Ordinance with input from numerous Municipalities. A county wide plan will lead to more effective stormwater management.

Adopting the Plan

Each municipality must put practices outlined in the Allegheny County Stormwater Management Plan and Ordinance in place to guide construction activities. A municipality may adopt the Countywide Plan as it is, or create stricter guidelines for stormwater management.

An informed and knowledgeable public is essential to ensuring the success of your stormwater management program. Through education, your community can offer greater support of the program and enable them to make changes in their everyday actions to improve the quality of our waters. Below are a few resources to help with the education and outreach components of your stormwater permit.
